This five-channel video animation was made in response to the Ming dynasty scroll ‘Imitating Zhao Bosu’s latter ode on the Red Cliff’ and the digital animation presented alongside it at the National Palace Museum (Taipei). My work uses a combination of 3D modelling, green screen video and photomontage to recreate Wen Zhengming’s 16th painting of the Yangtze River, and to speculate on the layers of calligraphic tradition, poetry and alcoholic recollection that define this particular landscape.
